“The theme of our story is blue, and keeping the color modern rather than taking it retro by layering products and textures. The juxtaposition of strong, saturated statement color with a sort of easy, spontaneous style seems to be a thread throughout all of the looks and I think is what balances all of the elements,” explains beauty editor Suzy Gerstein. “And much in keeping with The Know style, I tried to focus on cruelty free brands and used lots of beautiful, non-toxic skincare.”

Look 1, the base.

Products used:

– The royal blue shade from the Marc Jacobs Beauty Eye-Conic Multi-Finish Eyeshadow Palette Smartorial applied with a damp brush as eyeliner

– Noto Glow Stick No. 2 at inner corner of brow

– Marc Jacobs Beauty highliner in Orange Crush

– It cosmetics Tightine Mascara

– Kosås Color and Light Powder in Contrachroma for Sculpting

– Glossier Generation G in Leo on lips with a dab of Noto Multi-Bene Tint pressed into the lips’ center for a juicy, multi-dimensional pout.

For look 2, I broke up the graphic shadow from look 1 but kept the blue tint going by massaging on a thin layer of May Lindstrom’s The Blue Cocoon, deliberately keeping the remains of shadow underneath the eye for a sultry, lived in look.

I swept a mix of Surratt Beauty’s Artistique eyeshadows in D.O.W. and Minuit both above and below the lashes to encircle the eyes with more depth.

I applied Rituel De Fille Ash and Ember Eye Soot in Lyra to the eyes’ inner corners as well as the Cupid’s Bow to balance the deep blue tones on the eyes and provide a bit of relief from all the darkness.

For look 3, I popped the Chartreuse tone from the Viseart Editorial Brights Palette into the eyes’ inner corners. I then applied the Blue Sapphire shade from the Kat Von D Alchemist Palette all over the lid as a brightening wash.

Axiology Natural Organic Lipstick in Instinct.

Sculpting at temples and cheekbones with Kjaer Weis’ Dazzling Bronzer topped with more Kosås Contrachroma.

Bumped up the impact of the blue pigment on the eyes with teal tones from the Viseart Editorial Brights Palette, keeping the color particularly saturated in and above the eyes’ crease and at the outer corners for a feline feeling.

Intensified the orange underneath the eye with more Marc Jacobs Beauty Orange Crush which I topped with Surratt Beauty Naked Eyes for even greater color payoff.

Rimmed lashes top and bottom with MARC JACOBS BEAUTY Fineliner Ultra-Skinny Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner in Code Blue.

Added silvery cream shadow from ALCONE Cosmetics onto the center of the lid for extra dimension and contrast with the blue Liner.

Glossed up the skin with 8 Faces Boundless Solid Oil.

For the final, high gloss eyelid shot I was interested in skincare as makeup.

There are so many skincare formulas that are beautiful in and of themselves that I wanted to show that off.

I chose Talika’s LASH CONDITIONING CLEANSER. It’s a non-greasy, rinse-free makeup removing gel and has a lovely blue tint to it.

Throughout the story I also used the following products:

– La Bella Figura Modern Radiance Concentrate to prep and brighten the complexion

– Tata Harper’s Illuminating Moisturizer for a soft allover highlight

– Maya Chia Beauty The Eye Achiever to even tone and smooth underneath the eyes

– LXMI Nilotica Lip Melt to create a smooth canvas for for lipstick

– Biossance 100% Squalane Oil for a non-greasy body moisturizer
